Traditional Home

I love the idea of guest rooms under the eaves. A blank canvas that you can decorate any way you desire.

And the house to go with the bedroom under the eaves!! The flagstone walk, toward the house, is lovely in a haphazard way.

Deep window with bookcases on either side and the "traditional", hit up with graphic touches, is very pleasant.

To walk into a creative work space, all your own, is a huge treat.

The beautiful carving and patina of the natural wood leaves such a serene impression in my mind.

It is the time of year when you start settling in, nesting, so to say.

Fall Is Here

The first day of fall is here. Time for a plaid flannel nightshirt to keep the morning chill away.

I actually took this quilt home with ruffled sheets and gauze bed skirt. Thinking about the rug next to the bed and the blue and white lamp with the black shade. Maybe the two pillows, also. We shall see.

So many people are attracted to the fabric, draped on the chair.

I am tempted by this needlepoint pillow and hand painted metal tray. I like the throw and the rug too!

Orange, red and blue work together beautifully.

Is there such a thing as Autumn greens?

A layered fall table.

Love the silhouette of the white anchor with the nautical signal flags. A good look for a lakeside entry.

The shop feels cozy.

Pillows for the bunk room.

This is a fun display piece. A good way to corral favorites.

Time to hunker down and get ready for shorter days and chilly nights. Fall leaves and big, fat pumpkins, yellow Mums and cuddly sweaters.

Salute To Captain Morgan

Dear Morgan,
Feels like fall today. I put the orange Fermob Bistro table and chairs on the deck at the store.

Added pumpkins and yellow Mums. Harvest pillows and rooster chair pads for comfort and color.

Tomorrow is the first day of fall.

Hey Captain Morgan, thinking about you
sailing toward the sunset in the Gulf.

Did you see me go for a last swim of the season, in Lake Michigan,
 yesterday afternoon?
I miss you.

Love,
Mary Ann

Spark the tradition of design. Bringing what is painted back to wood. The unexpected lighting in an unexpected nook. Letting your bed skirts pool on the floor. When your bookcases are a mess and the tablecloth doesn't match. Take a purple velvet sofa and an upright chair covered in an upright fabric and put it in your corner of the room. Does it matter if it's somewhat messy and if it doesn't quite match? It helps to take the tension off the room, to allow you to relax in the setting.
What does it take to make you comfortable in your personal rooms?

Harvest In The Holler

The fun of setting the table.

Using a pair of Portmeirion, Botanic Garden, canisters as vases.

"Omena Cut Flowers" is a pleasant experience. The clippers and milk carton, with water for placing your cut blooms, are provided. Then with your head down and focusing on the stems for your bouquet you suddenly notice the bay lapping across the road  and smell the fresh air and you find Zen among the buzzing bees and radiant colors of her garden.

Having a collection of Portmeirion Pomona dinnerware and an antique harvest table, helps set the "harvest theme" for the dinner.

So busy, having fun, I forgot to take photos of all the freshly harvested food, from local produce stands and Steve's tomato/basil garden. He has had a rocking year for fresh basil.

Ina Garten's cookbooks scored five delicious recipes! Her Butternut Squash, Sweet Potato French Fries, Wild Rice with Pecans and Green Grapes, Pork Tenderloin Marinade and her fresh tomato/basil/mozzarella layers, that she writes about in her caption, were a beautiful combination of flavors, textures and colors for the Harvest Feast!

After thought...Portmeirion Birds Of Britain lamp. I'd say I have a penchant for English Transfer ware.

Monday morning musing!

A Day Off

To the north, Whaleback.

To the south, Bohemian Rd. beach.

Heaven to the west.

Coming right at me, out of the deep blue....

Pyramid Point.

He is getting closer....

To the east.

Oh darn, the one that got away....thought it was my romance novel come true....

Happy Labor Day.
