The Silver Punch Bowl Story

Once upon a time...my dad won a silver plated punch bowl playing golf.

Over the years I would borrow the bowl and polish the heck out of it and use it for different functions in life.

When my dad sold his home in Florida I asked him where the punch bowl was. He answered that it must have sold in the garage sale. I was so disappointed.

Years later I was in an antique junk shop in northeast Florida when I came across this large white box. When I opened it I found a tarnished, silver plated punch bowl! The kicker was that it came with a mismatched saucer for underneath. Guess what? That was how I knew it was my dads bowl.

How's that for a story!

A very delightful open house at the shop yesterday, all my favorite customers came in, ate cake and sipped Mimosas.

Thank you for the Poinsettia Lisa!

The Saltwater Collection

Adding to the collection! I carried this photo around for two years and decided to paint it. The wall in the photo was white but I painted it tomato red to pop the sofa. Using this painting to inspire the decorating of a room called Northern Lights. Still need to order the fabric for the sofa and will not paint the walls red but I like the concept for the room.

I have had a copy of this photo since 2008! Keith Burnham, from The Leland Report, posted it on line and I made a photo copy for my files. It is a picture of the pottery girl down in Fishtown. Just love it. The scene reminds me of being a little girl, in the sixties, and admiring all the artists on the docks. Ken Krantz had a shop named the Inter Arts Studio, selling art supplies, across from what is now known as the Village Cheese Shanty.

Love trying my skill at painting. I focus on the details and it takes me inside my minds eye. Pulling the vision in through my eyes, then running the vision through the brain and out my right hand! It is not an easy feat for me, I do a lot of erasing in the sketching phase. The favorite part is applying the colors of paint.

Hats off to Saturday!

Classic Queen

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Annie Leibovitz:

NEW OFFICIAL PORTRAIT OF THE QUEEN Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (born 1926) wears the Vladimir Tiara with the Cambridge emerald drops. The portrait, which is featured in a new edition of Keepers of the Kingdom, depicts the monarch wearing the robes of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, the most senior order of Scottish chivalry.:

Queen Elizabeth,:

The Queen (pictured leaving the Belgian Embassy in London after a attending a banquet in her honour) dressed to suit this in fairy-tale ballgowns and form-fitting dresses that showed off her hourglass figure:

The Queen rarely loses her temper. But you know it when she does!:

Queen Elizabeth during the Royal Windso horse show in 1998.:

I have a pinterest file titled, "It's Good To Be The Queen." It doesn't have a lot of pictures, there are thousands out there, instead the photos in the file reflect her personifications of being a queen.

A closet full of tweeds and silks, pearls and cardigans, a pair of sturdy shoes.

Not tolerating any nonsense in style but reveling that she knows who she is and will dress to suit the occasion.

A stand up class act with a heavy crown upon her head and mantel on her shoulders that would weight most men down. She continues her reign with dignity and justice rising above the egotistical powers that be when one is queen.

A roll model, a model of decorum, what is needed in America at this moment.

Monday morning musings.

A Post For Jackie The Decorator

Jackie would like to recover her dinning room chair cushions. I wonder how she will feel about roosters strutting across her chairs? The gold floral fabric is for the pillows on her living room sofa. She may already have this fabric in her collection, it looks a lot like her, when she is in her formal mood!

A bench and a pillow for her NYC granddaughter.

Jackie cannot wait to fondle all the new fabric swatches.

Twenty seven swatches cut on the generous side so you can really see what you're getting.

Funny thing about retail, it's not quite Christmas yet and I am shopping for spring. Makes ones head spin!

Thinking of Judy F and her addition on her home. Which new fabrics will appeal to her?

Then there is Mary Mary, working on her lodge, will she like a room done up in these patriotic colors?

Blue and white china with sterling silver candlesticks on the cranberry silk for the Christmas dinner table.

Remnants in linen, naugahyde and chenille, enough to cover your stools around the marble counter in the kitchen, Micheline.

The mans room. Would love to do this for T&G.

Christmas is coming and this fabric will make two fabulous pillows on the red leather sofa.

Bits and pieces in the remnants pile.

Place mats, floral fronts and stripped backs, enough for a least eight place settings.

Thank you, Captain America, for carrying all this fabric out to the truck. It weighs a ton!

There you go, Jackie, this ones for you!

November Rose

In the garden is this Peace Rose that blooms all the way into November. The color is reflective of the amber Maple Tree leaves in our Holler. It is the Topaz of the month. My favorite month of the year. Three very dear people, to me, celebrate their births in November. It is my own birth month, as well. Her last flowers are always on my kitchen window sill until the petals fall into the sink and are whisked away to make room for Christmas greenery. Tomorrow our country votes for new leadership. I am proud to be an American. Let us hope our nationality is still intact when the dust clears.

Amen.

Sven Grass Green Left Sectional Sofa:

Article

Look at all the beautiful choices of sofas. Colors and shapes. Velvet, leather, chintz and casual fabrics. Sectionals and three cushions or one long, down wrapped cushion. No skirts, no fuss just tufted, tucked and tailored.  A basket of oranges! Silky, deep cushioned bench. Green velvet with a most gorgeous pillow. Sit up straight, traditional with rolled arms and turned legs. A frame that fits a small foot print in a small space and offers great sitting choices. Blue leather L shape in an awkward shaped room. Green velvet, tufted and sleek.

I love them all.
