Madame Mulch Says.....

Rained all last night and the night before. Woke up this morning and it was deep fog. Taking the kitchen garbage up to the can, I looked out and the fog had receded leaving everything with a sparkle of moisture.

Again, I had to make that decision. Do I run back for the camera and risk missing the scene unfurling in front of me? Or, do I miss a good photo op?

Got back with my camera just in time for the dawn to go behind some clouds.

So I take some pictures of what is growing around my feet.

Blooms heavy with rain drops.

There! I caught it! Good thing I ran back and got my camera!

That was it for the sun, just that moment in time.

I know I have told you the story about my Florida Primrose.

April showers bring back the flowers from the ground.

Clumps of Daffodils in the woods.

That is an extra large Forsythia!

Benny, I love you!

They are so pretty in the morning light.

Ok, I will tell the story about the Primrose who traveled thirteen hundred miles to Florida to bask in the sun for two weeks, and then, turned around and came back, all the way, to Michigan and have grown in the garden every spring since then.

That big ole' Forsythia has been trimmed back countless times and the branches thrown into the woods only to sprout up out of the ground where I threw them!

Madame Mulch says, "Don't forget to enjoy the Forsythias and Daffodils." I love their yellow blooms in between the rain drops and showers. Spring has sprung in the Holler!

Working On A Project

Attached Pergola - To create a semi-private, outdoor seating area close to home, this Pergola extends from the house side with attached lattice panels.:

I like this pergola for out the french doors, it creates privacy but allows air flow on those hot days in northern Michigan!

Working on a screen door to keep the flies out. I like this idea.

If ever a cottage had a picture-perfect porch, it's this sweet stunner.:

Yes, I know this is the front view of a house but I want it to be the south side of my garage creating a covered walkway into the mudroom at one end.

No room for a fireplace in the apartment or in the budget! But a small wood burning stove is a great alternative. A must have in homes on the water for those damp and chilly days.

Building a studio apartment behind the shop. 750 sq ft and cozy! These are my ideas that I have saved on pinterest. What do you think?

Chilly In The Holler

Come on, you can do it my big ole' Forsythia, blossom!

Daffodils are trying to open up their trumpets.

So close. Needs just a little more sunshine.

The anticipation is killing me!

Waiting for spring.

Smack Dab In The Middle Of April

Chinoiserie Chic:

Furlow Gatewood is the best at layering the room. Even when there are creases in the rug, because of the folds from shipping, he manages to create a stunning arrangement.

Name this color...Linen Blue...

We have had just enough rainy mornings, in the Leelanau Peninsula, that the Forsythia buds are ready to burst into flower and the Daffodils are gently unfurling their trumpets bringing us a show of yellow before the greening of the earth.

Spring is a fresh start!

Treasures From Afar

I like to think of myself as the sea captain that sails his big old boat of a truck from northern freshwater ports to southern Atlantic ports and finds one of a kind items for Anchor Cottage to sell.

I tried to veer away from nautical items, in the shop, last year.

With so little space I had to give up something!

Couldn't help myself, down in West Palm, I brought back all my favorite nautical decorations to sell at Anchor Cottage.

Bedding world was moved to a new spot in the shop.

It is a little tight for photographing the bed.

It is a pretty little corner though.

Had fun collecting table top pieces.

Pretty fabric, plates and flowers on the table.

Crystal nappies are hot hot hot!

A piece here a piece there and it all adds up.

Three different blue and white finds from three different places along the way.

Together they make a pretty vignette displayed on your sideboard or in your kitchen hutch.

The mix of patterns, animals and blues.

Lobster traps and hemp fenders with a channel marker to boot!

Quite the collection of home decor for the cottage this summer.

Took me the whole week to set up, display, price and invoice. Saturday's opening was a lot of fun as we were celebrating Dr. Griffiths accomplishment with Rose and lemon cookies all through the day.

Stop by and see the new product in the store with more shipping in every week!
